How to Use a Dell Touchpad

By KR Knowlin

Dell touch pads allow you to quickly and efficiently navigate your laptop without external peripherals. The touch pad accomplishes this by detecting your finger on the touch surface area beneath your keypad. The two buttons under the touch pad act as right and left clicking options, just like a normal mouse. You can even customize your touch pad settings to better suit your needs.

Step 1

Slide your finger across the touch pad to move the cursor.

Step 2

Tap the surface area of the touch pad once to select an object.

Step 3

Hover your cursor over an item and double-tap the touch pad to perform a "Double-click."

Step 4

Drag and drop items by hovering your cursor over the item. Double-tap and hold the touch pad surface area. Without lifting, slide your finger across the touch pad to drag the object. When you want to drop the object, lift your finger.

Tips & Warnings

  • Customize your touch pad settings by clicking the "Start" button on your task bar and opening "Control Panel." Double-click the "Mouse" icon to launch the Mouse Properties window. Then, click the "Touch" tab. Configure the touch pad as you wish and click the "OK" button to save your changes and exit the window.
