AOL Mailbox Size Limits

America Online, or AOL, provides consumers a cost-free method to send and receive email. Once an account is created, email can be used either through the website, through the AOL software or through a second-party application, such as Microsoft Outlook.

AOL Email

You can sign up for an AOL email address by going to the AOL website and clicking "AOL Mail." Two types of mailbox styles are available. The original mailbox displays old messages and new messages in separate folders. The new style displays all messages in a unified mailbox.

Mailbox Size Limits

The amount of mail your mailbox can hold depends on the style of mailbox for your account. In the unified inbox, emails stay in your Inbox and Sent folder until you delete them. In the original style mailbox, the new mail folder holds 1,000 messages and the old mail folder holds up to 4,000. In both systems, you can create folders to save messages to. These folders can hold up to 5,000 messages each.

File Size Limits

The size of any individual message you send is limited to 25 MB. The message size is the total size of the text, attachments and necessary header information in the email. Files larger then 25 MB cannot be sent through AOL.
