In 2007, Apple released the iPhone for the first time. The iPhone is a cell phone, portable media player and miniature computer combined into one device. Because the iPhone is first and foremost a phone, however, it needs to be activated with a wireless provider before it can be used. The iTunes software is used to activate phones in the United States with their providers. You can learn how to activate your iPhone using iTunes in just a few steps.
Open the iTunes application by clicking "Start," then "All Programs" and clicking on "iTunes" in the software list.
Connect your iPhone to your PC with the USB cable that came with it. The iPhone activation wizard will start.
Provide the iPhone activation wizard with the information it requests. You'll need to have your social security number and billing address handy to type in.
Complete the wizard and allow your iPhone around 15 minutes to be activated on your wireless network. If you choose to port your number, the activation process may take a few days.
