If your HP laptop has a dull screen, or if the screen is too bright to make out anything that's displayed, you may need to adjust the brightness to get your screen back the way you like it. You don't want to strain your eyes to see your screen, and the fix is really simple. It's about as easy as adjusting the brightness on a TV. You'll have your brightness set the way you want it in a few seconds.
Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and a drop-down menu will appear.
Click on "Properties." If the HP laptop uses Windows Vista, you'll click on "Personalize."
On the "Personalize appearance and sounds" screen, click on "Window Color and Appearance."
Click on the arrow beside "Show color mixer."
Use your mouse pointer to move the tab on the "Brightness" scale to the left or the right to adjust the brightness and click on "OK" when you're content with the color.
