How to Burn CDA Files

By Art Corvelay

CDA files, or CD-Audio files, are files that can only be played off a CD. However, if you are a Windows user and want to make copies of CDA files from one CD to another, you can do so using Windows Media Player. Similarly, if you're a Mac user, you can make copies of CDA files using iTunes. The process of burning a CD with CDA files is two-fold. You must first rip the CDA files from the original CD source. Once ripped, you can burn the files back onto a blank CD.

Things You'll Need

  • Blank CD

Windows Media Player

Step 1

Launch Windows Media Player by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "Windows Media Player."

Step 2

Insert the source audio CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.

Step 3

Choose the CDA tracks you want to rip onto your computer. All songs are selected by default. Therefore, if you want to remove a song, click the check box next to a song to deselect it.

Step 4

Click the "Rip CD" button at the top of Windows Media Player. Wait a few minutes for the CDA tracks to be ripped onto your computer.

Step 5

Eject the audio CD and insert a blank writable CD into the CD burning drive of your computer.

Step 6

Find the songs you ripped from the source CD. To do this, click the "Library" tab in the left column of Windows Media Player. You will be able to browse your library for the songs.

Step 7

Drag the songs into the "Burn List." This is located in the right column of Windows Media Player.

Step 8

Click the "Start Burn" button at the bottom of the "Burn List." The tracks are burned onto the blank CD as CDA files.

iTunes

Step 1

Launch iTunes by clicking the iTunes icon in your Applications folder on your Mac.

Step 2

Insert a blank writable CD into the CD burning drive of your computer.

Step 3

Click on the CD in the left column of iTunes. Click the "Import CD" button in the lower-right corner of the screen. The audio files from the CD are imported into your iTunes library.

Step 4

Eject the audio CD and insert a blank CD into the disc drive of your Mac.

Step 5

Create a new playlist in iTunes by clicking the "Plus" icon in the lower-left corner of iTunes.

Step 6

Drag the files you previously ripped from the audio CD into the playlist. To do this, click "Recently added" in the left column of iTunes. Select the songs and drag them into the newly created playlist.

Step 7

Click the "Burn CD" button in the lower-right corner of the window. The files are burned onto the blank CD.
