How to Convert an MP3 to a MIDI Online

By David Weedmark

Using free online resources you can convert your MP3 files to MIDI files to be used to mix your own music or just to entertain your friends.

MIDI files, once a staple of online and computer-based music, are not as common as they used to be. Finding a free online conversion utility that can change MP3 files to MIDI format can be difficult. When you do convert your MP3 file to MIDI format, don't expect it to sound the same. For most tracks, the MIDI may sound like a cat prancing on a piano, regardless of what instruments were used to make the original recording.

Using Bear File Converter

Step 1

Go to Bear File Converter's Convert WAV to MIDI page. This page converts WAV, MP3, OGG, AAC and WMA files to MIDI format. Files must be 50 MB or smaller in size.

Step 2

Click the Upload and Convert button. A progress bar indicates the status of the upload and conversion.

Step 3

Click the Download link when it appears. If you double-click the link, it will open in your default audio player, like Windows Media Player.

Using Conversion Cat

Step 1

Go to Conversion Cat's MP3 to MIDI Conversion page.

Step 2

Select MIDI from the Extensions Available menu. Enter your email address in the Email field. Click Convert. The conversion takes only a few seconds.

Step 3

Open the email sent from Convertcat and click the Download link it contains. If you don't see the email in your Inbox after a few minutes, check your Spam folder. The file is automatically downloaded to your computer's Download folder. Conversion Cat only stores converted files for one day. Double-click the file to play it on your audio player, such as Windows Media Player.
