How to Download the Dell Resource CD
As of June 2010, Dell no longer supplies resource discs with computers they sell. Dell resource CDs typically contained drivers and diagnostic tools geared specifically for your machine. If you have an active warranty, you can request one set of recovery media for your computer from Dell through the Dell Backup and Recovery Media Request Form at no cost (See Resources). However, if your Dell computer is no longer under warranty, you can either pay to have Dell send you a resource disc or you can download the same files that are on the disc from the Dell support site.
Open your Web browser and navigate to the Dell Support website (See Resources).
Enter either the service tag or express service code associated with your device in the "Tell us more about your Dell product" field and then click "Submit." The service tag or express service code is contained in a small rectangular sticker either on the bottom of your laptop or the side of your desktop computer. Alternatively, click "Detect My Product" to have the website detect your machine. You'll be taken to the support page for your Dell computer.
Select "Drivers & Downloads" on the screen.
Click "System Analysis" to let the website perform a system scan to detect what's on your machine or "Service Tag" to key in your service tag and have the system retrieve your computer's information that way. Alternatively, enter the operating system; the category of download information you're looking for -- application, audio or chipset, for example; how far back you want to look; the type of download information you're looking for -- application, BIOS or driver, for example; the language and more in the "Or, show me all available drivers for" section. The results are automatically populated in the "These drivers match your selections" section.
Click the drop-down arrow next to any category where you want to see a list of the files that are available in that category.
Click "Download" for any file you want to download individually or click "Add to download list" to add the file to a list of files you can download in a batch.
Click the drop-down arrow next to "My download lists" and then click "Download this list" to download the group of files you selected.
