How to Erase Safari in an iPad

The iPad features a variety of built-in software applications as part of its operating system. These apps include the email client, the iPod multimedia player and the Safari web browser. Although these applications cannot be removed from the iPad, they can be hidden from the home screen and their use suspended through the restriction controls of the iPad's Settings application. Safari's stored data can also be erased from the iPad by clearing its history and cache.

Remove Safari Icon

Step 1

Launch the Settings application on the iPad by tapping its icon on the home screen.

Step 2

Tap the "General" button, followed by "Restrictions."

Step 3

Tap the "Enable Restrictions" button, and slide the "Safari" button to "ON." The Safari web browser will no longer appear on the iPad's home screen, or be accessible from any other applications.

Erase Safari Data

Step 1

Launch the Settings application on the iPad by tapping its icon on the home screen.

Step 2

Select the "Safari" option from the "Settings" menu.

Step 3

Tap the "Clear History," "Clear Cookies" and "Clear Cache" buttons at the bottom of the screen to erase all web browsing data collected by Safari.

Tips & Warnings

  • To enable Safari again, turn its switch off in the "Restrictions" settings.
  • Once erased, Safari's browser data cannot be retrieved.
