How to Find a VPN Password

By Stephen Lilley

A VPN, short for "virtual private network," is a type of wireless network connection that is natively supported by the Windows operating system. When you establish a connection with one of these networks you are required to enter a logon username and password. This information is stored in a file in the Network and Sharing Center. It is this file that you can use to find your VPN password should you ever forget it or need to refer to it.

Step 1

Click "Start" and select the "Control Panel" button.

Step 2

Click "Network and Sharing Center."

Step 3

Click "Manage Wireless Networks."

Step 4

Right-click the listing in the "Wireless Networks" window that represents the virtual private network connection. Click "Properties."

Step 5

Click the "Security" tab. Check the "Show Characters" box. The password for the virtual private network connection will be listed in the "Password" box onscreen.
