LG flatscreen TVs were designed with a closed caption feature that allows hearing disabled viewers to read a transcript of the audio on a television program. The text is written in a black box that appears on screen. Not all channels support closed captions, resulting in a black box on the screen without any text. You need to turn off the closed captions feature to remove the black box from the television.
Press the "Home" button on your remote control to access the main menu.
Push the down arrow button to highlight "Setup" and then press the "Enter" button. You'll find the "Enter" button in the center of the four arrow buttons.
Press the down arrow button until "Option" is highlighted, press "Enter," press the down arrow button until "Caption" is selected and then press "Enter" again.
Highlight "Off" using the arrow buttons and press "Enter." This turns off the closed captions feature on your LG flat panel television and will remove the black box from the television.
Push "Exit" to exit the main menu and return to watching television.
