Skype is a communication program that allows you to send and receive instant messages, conduct video and voice calls, and transfer files between peers. While instant messaging with this program, you can insert small graphics, called smileys, into your conversations. These images portray different emotions or actions, such as happy, sad, angry, confused and applause. Skype provides many pre-installed smileys with its software. However, you can also install new smileys from the Internet.
Download the smiley file from the website of your choice. Navigate to the folder -- usually the "Downloads" folder -- that contains the smiley file you've downloaded.
Right-click on the file and select "Copy" from the menu.
Navigate to the Skype folder on your hard drive. This is usually on the "C:" drive, in the "Programs Files" folder. Double-click the Skype folder to open it.
Double-click the "Resources" folder and right-click on the "Emoticons" folder. Select "Paste" from the menu to install the new smiley.
