How to put Music on a MP3 Player

By Andrew Smith

Numerous software programs let you listen to audio files on your computer. A portable media player allows you to enjoy this same music while you are on the go. Before you can listen to music on the MP3 player, you must first add the files onto the device. Windows Media Player is one program you can use to put music on your MP3 player. To do this, you must first add that music to the library in Windows Media Player.

Things You'll Need

  • Windows Media Player

Step 1

Install Windows Media Player if the program is not on the computer.

Step 2

Open Windows Media Player.

Step 3

Put music into your Windows Music Player library. Click "File" in the top left of the program. Highlight and select "Add to Library." A window will appear. Select the "Add" button. Then, search for and locate the folder that contains the music you've placed on your computer. Choose this folder and then click "OK." Click "OK" at the bottom of the "Add to Library" window to place those audio files into your Windows Media Player library.

Step 4

Click "Sync" at the top of the program.

Step 5

Plug the MP3 player into the computer. Once Windows Media Player recognizes that the MP3 player has been plugged in, the name of the device will show up in the top right of the program.

Step 6

Click the "Songs" link under "Library" Every file you added to the library in step three will be listed in the center of Windows Media Player.

Step 7

Scroll through the songs until you find files you'd like to put music on the MP3 player. Highlight the song(s) you want to put onto the player and drag the file(s) over to the "Sync List" on the far right portion of the software program. Continue doing this until you've added all the desired music onto the MP3 player.

Step 8

Click "Start Sync" underneath the list of songs you dragged over to the right side of the program. The music will be added to the MP3 player. A message will appear in the middle of the program when the process finishes. You can then disconnect your MP3 player.
