How to Repair a Toshiba 8GB Flashdrive

Flash drives are available from many manufacturers with various amounts of storage. When an error occurs with a device such as the Toshiba 8 gigabyte drive, there are some things you can try to fix the problem.

Safely Remove Hardware

Step

Insert the flash drive into a USB port on the computer. Wait for the operating system to recognize the drive. You will see a “Safely Remove Hardware” icon appear in the system tray.

Step

Double-click the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon to open the "Stop a Device" window.

Step

Highlight your Toshiba drive and click the “OK” button.

Step

Remove the flash drive from the computer when you see a safe-to-remove message on the screen.

Error Check Flash Drive

Step

Click the "Start" menu and select the option for “Computer.”

Step

Right-click the icon for your Toshiba flash drive and select “Properties” from the context menu.

Step

Go to the “Tools” tab and click the “Check Now” button that is under “Error checking.” Put a check in the box for “Automatically Fix File System Errors” and click the “Start” button.

Format the Flash Drive

Step

Click the "Start" menu and select the option for “Computer.”

Step

Right-click the icon for your flash drive and select “Format” from the context menu.

Step

Enter a name in the "Volume Label" text box and put a check in the box for “Quick Format.” Click the “Start” button. Wait while the drive is being formatted.
