How to Repair a Toshiba 8GB Flashdrive

Flash drives are available from many manufacturers with various amounts of storage. When an error occurs with a device such as the Toshiba 8 gigabyte drive, there are some things you can try to fix the problem.

Safely Remove Hardware

Step 1

Insert the flash drive into a USB port on the computer. Wait for the operating system to recognize the drive. You will see a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon appear in the system tray.

Step 2

Double-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon to open the "Stop a Device" window.

Step 3

Highlight your Toshiba drive and click the "OK" button.

Step 4

Remove the flash drive from the computer when you see a safe-to-remove message on the screen.

Error Check Flash Drive

Step 1

Click the "Start" menu and select the option for "Computer."

Step 2

Right-click the icon for your Toshiba flash drive and select "Properties" from the context menu.

Step 3

Go to the "Tools" tab and click the "Check Now" button that is under "Error checking." Put a check in the box for "Automatically Fix File System Errors" and click the "Start" button.

Format the Flash Drive

Step 1

Click the "Start" menu and select the option for "Computer."

Step 2

Right-click the icon for your flash drive and select "Format" from the context menu.

Step 3

Enter a name in the "Volume Label" text box and put a check in the box for "Quick Format." Click the "Start" button. Wait while the drive is being formatted.

Tips & Warnings

  • Reformatting the flash drive will erase all data that is on the drive.
