Prepaid cellphone plans, with no long-term contracts to sign, give consumers greater control over their phone bills. Most major phone service providers offer a prepaid option. TracFone is one prepaid service provider and you can buy new TracFone phones as well as prepaid minute cards at most major discount stores and pharmacies. If you're already a TracFone customer and you want to upgrade your phone, you can transfer your existing minutes and phone number from your old phone to your new phone using the TracFone website.
Press the "Menu" button on your current TracFone and select the "Prepaid" option. Scroll down and select "Serial Number" or "My IMEI." Write down the serial number of your current TracFone and repeat the process for your new TracFone.

Log in to your account on the TracFone website. If you don't have an online account, click "Register Now" in the upper right corner of the web page and follow the prompts to establish an account.
Click on the "Activate/Reactivate Phone" tab in the upper left of the TracFone web page.
Click on "Transfer my service and phone number from one TracFone to Another." Select the brand and model of your new TracFone and, on the next screen, select the brand and model of your current TracFone.
Enter the serial number of your new TracFone.
Enter the serial number of your current TracFone. If you are already a registered user, your current phone may appear in a list in this section. Click on the button next to your active phone.
Press the "Menu" button on your current TracFone and select "Prepaid." Scroll to "Code Entry Mode" and press "Select."
Enter the series of codes into your current TracFone. Follow the directions exactly as they appear on the screen as these codes are unique to each phone. If you make a mistake and the code is not accepted, don't attempt to continue -- call TracFone customer service at 1-800-867-7183.
Click "Yes" to confirm the number of minutes and service days to transfer to your new TracFone. If you do not agree with the number of minutes and service days, click "No" and contact customer service.
