Yahoo Mail is one of the leading Web-based email providers, along with Gmail from Google and Hotmail and Windows Live from Microsoft. Web-based email services give users the ability to send and receive email from any computer that is connected to the Internet. They also offer an additional line of protection against viruses. Creating a Yahoo Mail account is free and only takes a few minutes.
Open your preferred Web browser and navigate to the Yahoo Mail sign-in page. (See Resources.) Click "Create New Account."
Type your full name, gender, date of birth and ZIP code into the first section of the registration form. Type your desired Yahoo username into the Yahoo ID and Email field. Click the "Check" button to the right of the box to see if the ID you have chosen is available. If it's not, choose another username.
Type your desired password into the appropriate field. Your password must be between six and 32 characters. You can use capital letters and numbers. You can also use special characters such as "!" or "@." Choose a password that only you will know. Retype the password for verification.
Choose two secret questions from the drop-down menu. Example questions are "What is Your Mother's Maiden Name?" or "What Street Did You Grow Up On?" As with your password, choose secret questions that only you will know. Type your answers in the fields beneath the questions. Yahoo will ask you these secret questions if your forget your password.
Type the eight-digit visual verification code. If you cannot read the "Captcha" code, click "Try a New Code." Click "Create My Account" to open your new Yahoo Mail account. This redirects you to your inbox.
