How to Program a GE Universal Remote

There's no need to panic if you've lost your remote. Most universal remote controls can be programmed to operate just about any piece of electronic equipment. In fact, most TVs, DVD Player's, Cable and Satellite Boxes will work with a GE Universal remote. Consult your GE Universal remote's manual for your electronic equipment's code; if it's not listed, you can always search for a code that will work with the remote.

Program your GE Universal remote to work with your home theater components.

Step 1

Manually turn the device on you want to program.

Step 2

Press and hold setup until the light stays on, then release the button.

Step 3

Press the button on the remote of the device you want to program. (Example: TV, VCR, DVD, CBL/SAT)

Step 4

Enter the three-digit code from the list for the device you want programmed. Some devices might have numerous three-digit codes; start with the first code. After you enter a code the light will turn off.

Step 5

Aim your remote at the device and hit power, your device should turn off. If the device doesn't turn off start over and move on to the next three-digit code. Keep doing this until you find the code that turns your device off.

Step 6

Turn you device back on with the remote and try your volume and channel buttons just to verify everything is working properly.

Step 7

Continue with the next step if none of the codes worked for you.

Step 8

Manually turn on the device you want to program.

Step 9

Press and hold setup until the light stays on, then release the button.

Step 10

Step 11

Press and release the power button until your device turns off. Wait a few seconds between each time you press power. This is going through a code search with your remote; you might have to press the power button up to 250 times.

When your device turns off press "Enter." The light on the remote should go off.

Tip

If neither of these processes worked for you then your device is not compatible with your GE Universal remote.
