Viewsat is the brand name of free-to-air satellite receivers that are installed in home entertainment centers. Unlike subscription satellite services, which have encrypted satellite signals, free-to-air satellite receivers receive unencrypted satellite signals. The remote control that comes with Viewsat free-to-air satellite receivers is universal and can be programmed to work with other devices in a home entertainment center, such as the television, VCR and DVD player.

Manual Code Entry

Step

Power on the TV, VCR or DVD player that you want to program to work with the Viewsat remote control.

Step

Hold down the "TV," "VCR" or "DVD" button until the indicator light on the remote control turns on. Let go of the button once the light turns on.

Step

Find the code for your device in the list of codes located in the Viewsat instruction manual. The codes are arranged by the device manufacturer. There may be several three-digit codes for each manufacturer. The link to a PDF of the instruction manual is located in the References section.

Video of the Day

Step

Point the remote control at the device you want to program and enter the first three-digit code. The indicator light will blink three times and then shut off if you entered the code correctly.

Step

Press the "Power" button on the remote control to test the newly programmed device. If the device shuts down, the code was entered correctly. If the device does not turn off, repeat Steps 1-4, using the next code on the list.

Code Search

Step

Turn on the device that you want to program.

Step

Press and hold the device button on the remote control until the indicator light on the remote control turns on.

Step

Push the up arrow button while pointing the remote at the device. The indicator light will start flashing. The remote is testing the first set of codes, which takes approximately three seconds. If the remote control finds the right code for the device, the device will shut off.

Step

Search the next set of codes by pressing the up arrow button. This should only be done when the indicator light stops blinking, and if the device did not shut off. Continue pressing the up button until the device finds the correct code.

Step

Save the code to your remote by pressing the "OK" button on the remote control.
