How to Check a MacBook Camera

The iSight camera built into your MacBook's display allows you to take digital photos, video chat and record video right onto your hard drive. If your camera is not working properly, check the status of the camera to see if the problem is related to your hardware or to the camera's software.

Step 1

Click the "Photobooth" icon on your MacBook's dock or from the "Applications" folder. The webcam should turn on, presenting an image from the camera on the screen.

Check to see if the computer recognizes the camera if the image from the webcam does not appear. Click "Finder" on the dock and click "Utilities."

Click the "System Profiler" icon. Click the "USB" entry under the "Hardware" section. The "Built-in iSight" entry should appear under the "USB High-Speed Bus."
