When you find videos that you really enjoy on the Internet, you shouldn't trust that those videos will always be available for your viewing pleasure. Videos can disappear at any time if the people that uploaded them, or the people who operate the video-sharing site, decide to remove them. The only way to ensure that the video remains available for you to watch is to download a copy to your computer. Several tools make it possible to download video in Internet Explorer.
Sothink Web Video Downloader
Download Web Video Downloader from SourceTec Software (see Resources). Once the program has downloaded, go to the "Downloads" folder and double-click the program file icon. When the program setup window appears, follow the screens to install the Sothink Web Video Downloader.
Open the Sothink Web Video Downloader. If you created a desktop icon, double-click the icon to launch the program. If you chose not to create a desktop icon during setup, go to the "Start" menu, "All Programs," click the "SourceTec" folder, and then "Sothink Web Video Downloader."
Click the "X" on the notification message that appears above the system tray on the taskbar. The Sothink Web Video Downloader is minimized and the icon appears in the system tray.
Pull up any video that you want to capture in your web browser. Press "Play" on the video and allow the video to play all the way through. The Sothink Web Video Downloader automatically captures the video.
Press the green arrow button on the preview screen that pops up to check the captured video. If the video captured correctly, click the video image to download the video. Choose the folder that you want to save the video into by clicking the button next to "Save to" and enter a name for the video in the "File Name" box. Click "OK" to download the video to your computer.
Open a web browser and go to the ClipNabber page (see Resources). The online ClipNabber system downloads video from major Internet video sites, including YouTube, Vimeo and MegaVideo.
Go to the video that you want to download in another tab of the browser. Click into the address bar of the video site to highlight the website address and press "Ctrl+C" to copy the address.
Return to the ClipNabber page, right-click into the URL box provided and choose "Paste." Click the "Nab" button to download the video from the Internet.
Click one of the download links provided on the ClipNabber page. The video can be downloaded as either an FLV (Flash video file) or as an MP4 file, which is ideal for MP3 players.
Go to the Vixy website in your web browser (see Resources). Like ClipNabber, Vixy downloads video from many sites on the Internet.
Open the video in a second tab in your browser. Copy the URL of the video by right-clicking in the address bar and choosing "Copy."
Switch back to the Vixy page, right-click into the URL box and choose "Paste." Choose an output format for the video from the drop-down menu and click the "Start" button.
Click the link provided on the Vixy page when the download is complete. Select "Save as" and download the video to your computer.
