Not having your Windows operating system's license key is a problem when you wish to reinstall your operating system. You may need to do so when replacing a hard drive, or formatting your current one. With a small freeware tool, you can recover your license key quickly and easily.

Step 1

Navigate to

Video of the Day

Step 2

Inside a box on the right of the page, under "All Important Links," click "Download Latest Build." You will be redirected to SourceForge and a window asking you to save the Magical Jellybean Keyfinder will pop up. Save the keyfinder to your desired location.

Step 3

Locate the file you downloaded, it will be named keyfinder followed by the latest version number.

Step 4

You have downloaded a .zip file and you will need to extract the files inside to access the program. This is normally done by right clicking the .zip file and clicking "Extract."

If you do not have unzip software, a freeware unzip software is listed under resources.

Step 5

One of the files you have extracted is an executable file named keyfinder.exe. Double click this file. The Magical Jellybean Keyfinder will open and by default will have selected your Windows operating system and show you the key. Write this down for later reference.
