How to Install the NVIDIA Control Panel

By Stephen Lilley

The NVIDIA Control Panel hardware application unlocks the features of NVIDIA drivers so that you can change the way your computer's graphics or video card operates. The app includes multimedia and display management tools as well as advanced gaming features to ensure your PC's video output remains stable and reliable. Access to the NVIDIA Control Panel is through the Windows Control Panel. If you've installed an NVIDIA card in your computer but you can't find the Control Panel software you can obtain it by downloading and installing the most recent device driver for your card.

Step 1

Open your computer's Web browser and navigate to NVIDIA's official driver download page.

Step 2

Fill out the information requested in the drop-down menus on screen. These menus are used to identify your specific NVIDIA product, which will ensure that you download and install the correct device driver. You must specify the product type, product series, the unit's exact model number, your operating system and your desired language.

Step 3

Click "Search." This will bring up a page with device drivers for the NVIDIA product you have specified. Click the "Download" link to download the device driver to your computer.

Step 4

Double-click your NVIDIA device driver file. Click "Install." This will install the NVIDIA device driver and the NVIDIA Control Panel onto your computer.

Step 5

Reboot your computer. When Windows loads again you can access the NVIDIA Control Panel through the Windows Control Panel. For Windows 8, right-click the Windows button in the desktop task bar and then select "Control Panel" from the jump menu. For Windows 7, click the "Start" button and then choose "Control Panel" from the Start menu.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check graphic and video card information for your computer with the Device Manager app. Press the "Windows-R" keys on your computer, enter "devmgmt.msc" in the Run field, click "OK" and then select the "Display Adapters" entry in the Device Manager pane.
  • Some computers ship with custom drivers that turn off certain pages and settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Recover missing pages/settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel by downloading the latest drivers available from NVIDIA.
