You can transfer an existing phone number to a Boost mobile phone. But the number must be current. If you have failed to pay your old wireless carrier, the carrier may have already cancelled your right to that phone number. You will need to verify that the existing number is yours by submitting some personal information to Boost. Prior to activating your Boost mobile phone, make sure it's thoroughly charged.

Step 3

Give the representative information to verify your account with the previous carrier. You must have the phone number you want to transfer, the account number assigned for your previous mobile account, the PIN or password used with the old carrier, your name and address as listed with the old carrier, and your Social Security number. Much of this information is available on your phone bill.

Step 4

Select a Boost mobile plan. Boost currently offers a month-to-month plan and a prepaid minute plan.

Step 5

Provide the representative with the Boost mobile phone's SIM ID and IMEI number, or the EIN or MEID number. The SIM ID and IMEI are 15-digit numbers located inside the battery bay; the SIM ID is located on the SIM card. The EIN is a 11-digit number, and the MEID is an 18-digit number. Either number is located on the box the phone came in, or inside the phone's battery compartment.

Step 6

Allow Boost Mobile to transfer your phone number. Porting typically is done within 24 hours. During that period, Boost Mobile port or transfer the number to your Boost phone. After Boost has transferred your phone number to the Boost phone, call your old wireless carrier and cancel the service.
