Change your email address and password.

Making changes to your email address and password is oftentimes necessary for a variety of reasons. You may have an old email address that is getting bombarded with junk mail to the point that it is almost unbearable. Perhaps an old acquaintance, whom you no longer want to have your contact information, is continuing to send you emails. Maybe you feel that your old email password is no longer secure or you just simply want a new one that is easier to remember. Whatever your reason is for desiring an email address and password change, it is a task that can be accomplished within minutes.

Email Address

Step 1

Contact your email service provider to determine whether or not your email address can be changed. Most providers will not allow you to change your email address once you have created it. However, if the company allows it, advise them of the new email address you would like to use.

Step 2

Ask your email service provider whether or not you can create additional email accounts if you are advised that your original email address cannot be changed. If you are able to create additional email accounts, you can change your email address by simply creating a new one. Depending upon your email service provider, you may be able to create an additional email account over the telephone. Otherwise, you may be directed to the email service provider's website to setup the new account.

Step 3

Advise friends and family of your new email address. This will ensure that important emails are no longer being sent to your old address.

Step 1

Visit the website of your email service provider. While you certainly have the option of contacting some email service providers over the telephone to change your password, you should do it via the company's website whenever possible. This ensures that you are the only person who knows the password.

Step 2

Select the "Log In" or "Sign In" option. Enter your current email address and current password to log into your email account.

Step 3

Locate the "Account Settings" or "Profile" option for your email account. The exact wording will vary.

Step 4

Select the option to "Change Password." You will then be able to enter the new password you would like to use with your email account. You may be prompted for the old password before you are allowed to submit a new one.

Step 5

Click on the option to "Save" your new password.
