How to Search My Email History

By Chris Brake

Most email providers offer a search function for users to easily search their inboxes and other email folders for a specific search term. This built-in search function is very useful for tracking down user names, passwords, dates, times and other important-yet-forgotten information. As long as the e-mail hasn't been deleted, you should be able to find it using an email history search.

Gmail

Step 1

Log into your Gmail account and type in a line of text to search for in the box at the top of the screen.

Step 2

Click the "Search Mail" button to begin searching all of your mail.

Step 3

Click on "Sent Mail," "Trash" or any of the other links on the left side of the screen to view only certain types of messages. Use the search box at the top of the pages to search only in the selected directory.

Yahoo

Step 1

Log into your Yahoo! email account and use the search box above your avatar to do a normal email search.

Step 2

Click the "Mail Search" button to begin searching all areas of your account.

Step 3

Windows Live Hotmail

Step 1

Log into your Windows Live Hotmail account and locate the "Search your e-mail" field.

Step 2

Type a search term into the search box and hit the "Enter" key.

Step 3

Use quotations around the search term in the search box to help narrow down the search results if too many items are returned.
