The average American will spend nine years of his life watching television, according to a study conducted at California State University, Northridge. As a result, tuning a television's channels and viewing its settings is an important part of the viewing experience. Samsung offers a line of televisions that range in size, pricing and features. Many newer televisions adjust channels, contrast, brightness and other viewing options automatically, which allows you to get straight to watching your favorite movies or programs.
Automatically Tune Channels
Open the television's menu using your remote and select "Channel Setup" or "Channels."
Video of the Day
Select the "Auto Store" or "Automatic Scan" option by scrolling with the channel buttons. Press the "Enter" button to begin the scan. The television will scan for channels that are available in your area and store them to a specific position.
Select the channel that you would like to view when the scan is complete.
Manually Tune Channels
Press the menu button, select the "Channel" option and press "Enter."
Select the "Manual Store" or "Add Channels" option using the channel scroll buttons and press "Enter."
Select the channel you would like to add by using the channel scroll buttons or the numbered keypad on your remote. Press the "Enter" button to choose each channel.
Tuning the Image
Open the menu and select "Setup." Press the "Enter" button.
Select the "Backlight" option, if available, and adjust the setting to its midpoint. Make sure that you set this option first.
Select the "Brightness" option. Adjust the option until black areas on the screen appear to be black as opposed to gray.
Open the "Contrast" option and adjust the level until you can see details in white areas on the screen.
