How to Add YouTube Videos to My SD Card

To save YouTube videos to your SD card, first download them from the website to your computer. You can use add-ons available for your browser; Firefox and Internet Explorer each have more than one YouTube downloading add-on. Most YouTube videos are available in FLV format, though some videos are in the MP4 format. Once you have downloaded your video, copy it from your Downloads folder to your SD card.

Mozilla Firefox

Step

Insert your SD card into your computer, using either an external card reader or an internal card reader.

Step

Install the Easy YouTube Video Downloader for Firefox (see Resources). Restart Firefox after the download is complete.

Step

Visit the YouTube video that you wish to download.

Step

Click the "Download As" button located to the right of the "Embed" button below the video. Select the video type and quality from the options; avoid the MP3 option, as this only downloads the audio as an MP3 file.

Step

Open your SD card in your file manager. On a Windows computer, go to "My Computer" and open the SD card from under "Removable Devices." On a Mac, once you've inserted the SD card, it should appear as an icon on your desktop. Depending on your Linux distribution, you can either find the SD card in "Computer" or mounted on your desktop like on a Mac.

Step

Open the download location for your Firefox browser; if you haven't changed the settings, the default is typically either your "Downloads" folders or your Desktop. Select the video file and copy it either by pressing "Ctrl" and "C" on your keyboard, or by right-clicking the icon and selecting "Copy."

Step

Maximize the SD card window, and paste the video onto the card by pressing "Ctrl" and "V" or by right-clicking on the background and selecting "Paste."

Internet Explorer

Step

Insert your SD card into your computer, using either an external card reader or an internal card reader.

Step

Install the Internet Explorer YouTube Downloader (see Resources), then run the program on your computer.

Step

Visit the video that you want to download on YouTube and copy the URL from the address bar. Copy this URL into the first text box of the YouTube Downloader, under "Enter Video URL."

Step

Choose a file type from the "Convert To" drop-down menu.

Step

Click "OK" to begin the download and conversion.

Step

Open your SD card in the file manager by going to "My Computer" and double-clicking the drive icon. Your SD card should be listed among the removable devices, either with a custom name or as "Removable Device."

Step

Open the folder where you set the converted video to be saved. You can copy the file by selecting it and pressing "Ctrl" and "C" on your keyboard, or "Ctrl" and "X" if you want to "cut" the file, moving it from its current location to the SD card. Navigate to the SD card window and press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste the video onto the SD card.
