How to Download Embedded Music

By "embedded" video or audio, we mean video and audio files that play on an Internet web page, and not in an external application. Many media websites embed audio and video files so they can be played on the browser alone. If you want to download these files, you must use a download manager. The first two methods given in the article below apply to all web browsers, while the third gives instructions specific to Firefox.

Method 1: "Hi Download"

Step 1

Download and install the application “Hi Download.” It is a free application that lets users download embedded audio files. You can find the link to download this application in Resources below.

Click the “Play” button and start playing the audio file.

Step 2

Right-click on the embedded media player.

Step 3

Click on “Properties” to open the Properties window.

Highlight the URL written next to “Location.”

Step 5

Copy the URL by pressing “Ctrl + C.”

Step 6

Run “Hi Download” on your PC.

Open the “Add” window and paste in the URL by pressing “Ctrl + V” to paste the video. The file will then start downloading.

Method 2: Orbit

Step 1

Download and install Orbit. Orbit is a free application that can download embedded streaming music and videos from websites such as My Space, Youtube, Imeem, Pandora, Rapidshare and more.

Step 2

Open the embedded music file on the web browser. Hover the cursor to the media player menu. You will see a small “Get It” button near the cursor. Click this button. Grab ++ will now launch. Grab ++ is part of the Orbit application.

Step 3

Press “Ctrl + F5” to refresh your web browser’s page. The page will refresh, and the music file will be grabbed. You will be able to see the file listed in Grab ++. Select the file listed in Grab++ and click the Download button.

The file will then start downloading to your computer. Once it finishes downloading, you can access it from My Computer > Drive: C > Programs > Orbit > Downloads.

Method 3: Firefox

Step 1

Open Firefox. Click on “Tools” > “Add-ons.” Then click on “Get Add-ons.”

Search the add-on “Download Embedded 0.5,” which is available from the link provided in the Resources section. Download this add-on.

Step 3

Close the browser and launch it again. You will then see a red arrow at the bottom of the browser window.

Step 4

Open the web page that contains the embedded audio file. Click the red arrow. You will then see a menu. Click on “Download all embedded items.”

Step 5

Select a destination folder for the file. Once the file downloads, you can play it from the folder you selected as the destination.
