How to Return an Item Purchased on PayPal

Shopping online may be a hit-or-miss experience, especially when the item arrives with missing or damaged parts. As one of the major companies to send money and pay for purchases online, PayPal offers a convenient way to return items to the seller. The buyer prints a return shipping label containing a tracking number, then PayPal sends a confirmation email to both parties. The buyer initially pays for return shipping through a PayPal account, then the seller issues a refund according to the company's policies.

Step

Ask the seller via email or telephone if you can return the item and if the company will pay for return shipping. Inquire about additional policies, such as including a reason for the return or the original invoice.

Step

Navigate to the PayPal website and log in to your account using your email address and password.

Step

Click the blue "My Account" tab at the top of the screen, then click "History."

Step

Scroll down and find the payment corresponding to your purchase, then click the "Details" link next to "Payment Status."

Step

Click "Return Shipping Label" located at the bottom of the page. Enter the shipping information, then click "Continue."

Step

Double-check the information you provided on the form, then click "Pay and Continue." Print the label by clicking "Print" in the dialog box and check your email for confirmation from PayPal.

Step

Take the item and label to your nearest post office. Ask the clerk to pad the item, if necessary, and box it. Include any additional items required by the seller.

Step

Purchase Delivery Confirmation to have a backup record of delivery, then attach the label to the package and mail it.
