Want to save a YouTube video on your computer? If you like a certain video clip, you should save a copy to your desktop, since videos are taken down from YouTube by their posters all the time. You can't save directly from YouTube to your desktop, but third-party software makes the process achievable.
Step 1
Open YouTube and bring up the video you wish to copy.
Video of the Day
Step 2
Copy the URL address from the browser address bar.
Step 3
Sign up for a free trial at VideoDL. This file-converting website allows you to download videos and MP3s directly from the web and onto your computer. Other similar websites offer this same function.
Step 4
Paste the URL of the YouTube video into the field next to the words "Get It" on the VideoDL website.
Step 5
Click "Get It." This retrieves the video link and displays it below the search field.
Step 6
Copy and paste the video link into your download manager. Change the file extension to ".flv."
