Dish HD DVR Receiver Problems

As of early 2010, Dish Network offered four different HD receivers with DVR capabilities; models 612, 622, 722 and 722k. Each receiver shared a commonality among the top five technical issues, as reported by customers. If you currently have a Dish Network HD DVR receiver, then it is easy to recognize known issues. Dish Network receivers are designed to report error codes and information to the viewer on the television screen, which can be researched via Dish Network's online Tech Portal or by calling their technical support hotline.


Error Code 002 and 015

Error 002 and 015 results when there is signal degradation or loss. Typically, this is caused by bad weather, movement of the actual dish, or a bad coaxial cable in the installation. In order to troubleshoot these errors, first determine if bad weather is the culprit, specifically snow, rain or heavy cloud coverage. If so, then once the storm passes the error will correct itself. If the actual dish was recently moved, then perform a signal strength test from your receiver's on-screen menu. On your receiver's remote, press "Menu" and navigate to "System Setup," "Installation," and "Point Dish." Enter your ZIP code and follow the on-screen instructions. Satisfactory signal strength should steadily rest between 80 and 100 for the best image quality. You may need to physically move the external dish to pick up the necessary signal for the HD receiver to correct the error code.

If your signal strength is satisfactory, then physically inspect all connections from the dish to the receiver. If you suspect a section of coaxial cable is damaged within the wall, then you may need to call a technician for assistance. If you find a portion of damaged cable, then replace it with a new one.


Error Code 004

This multidish error usually occurs when switching between HD and SD channels. The best strategy to troubleshoot this error is to change the channel by pressing the up or down channel button. If it occurs on the next channel, then power-off the system and unplug it from the wall. After 15 seconds, plug the receiver back in and power on the unit. If the problem persists, run a switch test by pressing "Menu" on the receiver's remote, and then navigating to "System Setup," "Installation," "Point Dish," "Check Switch," then "Test." If bad weather is not in the area, save the new switch information. If the problem continues, contact a Dish Network technician.


Error Code 005 and 013

Error 005 and 013 indicates the receiver is not authorized to view the channel content or program. Check your receiver to ensure the correct smart card is inserted in the slot. If you haven't touched the smart card and should receive the channel, then power-off your receiver and unplug it. Wait for 15 seconds then plug the receiver back into the outlet and power it on. The receiver will download all current program information, based on the subscriber settings in your Dish Network account. If you recently activated your receiver or purchased new programming, then it can take up to 20 minutes for your receiver to update. If the issue persists, contact a Dish Network technician.
