The Hulu app makes it possible to stream movies and television shows from the Hulu service on your LG television. Scrolling and navigating the app is simple once you install Hulu on LG smart TV models. The installation process is simple but it requires a compatible television that can run LG smart TV apps.

Compatible LG Models

Video of the Day

Older LG television models are not always compatible with Hulu or other app based streaming services. The models that are compatible all have webOS 3.5, Netcast or newer operating systems. Some older models will also load the app with webOS 3.0 but not those categorized as B6, UH6350, UH6330, UH77, UH76 and UH61 model types. Ideally, a newer model television is used because all new devices are setup for app based streaming.

Another stipulation for older models using webOS 3.0 is being limited to the classic Hulu app. This only allows for streaming from the library. Streaming the premium service or live television is not possible through these television models. Upgrading the television or using an exterior media management tool like a Roku is necessary for the premium content and live television options.

If you are unsure of the model and compatibility, checking through the Hulu or LG website will quickly help to determine compatibility. If the television already supports app based streaming, it should easily load and deliver media through the Hulu platform. Look on the back of the television for the serial number and model to cross check for compatibility.

Alternative Media Devices

The alternative to using an LG model that host apps through webOS 3.5 is adding an exterior media delivery device like a Roku or Fire Stick. These devices make streaming possible on television models with USB port connections, increasing the number of older television models that will stream through Hulu.

The actual download process for most Roku, Fire Stick and other exterior devices is similar. Access the app screen and locate the search box. Type "Hulu" and press enter to run a search and locate the Hulu app. After locating the app, choose to install and wait until the process is compete.

After installation, you must still setup an account or login to an existing account. Hulu has several different plans with the option for playing with ads, without ads and live television streaming. Each comes with a different price point.

Adding Hulu App to LG TV

Newer LG television models offer the option to install the app directly. The process for Netcast and webOS 3.5 systems is similar and very easy to execute. Simply locate the search function and click to launch the search bar. Type "Hulu" and press enter to run a search for the app.

After locating the Hulu app, click Install and it will load to your apps screen. After the download is complete, click to launch Hulu and setup your account or signup to create a new account. If the app is not retrieved through the general search, use the LG content store.

Press the Home button on the remote and choose More Apps. Select the LG Content Store and navigate to the Premium options. Search for the Hulu app and click Install to complete the process. If you can't find Hulu app on LG TV search functions or in the store, it likely is not compatible. Only available apps will display and you may require an external media streaming tool.
