When new computer programs are installed, most of them automatically install a desktop shortcut. The desktop shortcut icon makes it easier for the user to quickly access the program rather than going to the start menu and searching through all programs for the one wanted. If an installation did not set up a desktop shortcut icon, the user can do so manually.
