People Think Samsung's Galaxy S9 AR Emoji Are Terrifying


Samsung's Galaxy S9 has a hanful of cool new features, but there's one in particular people can't stop talking about—and not in a good way. AR Emoji is essentially Samsung's version of Apple's Animoji, except instead of adorable, lifelike animals, it turns your face into a creepy version of itself.

To make your own AR Emoji, all you need to do is take a selfie while smiling with your mouth closed, and your Galaxy S9 will turn your face into an animated 3D model, which can be customized with hairstyles, clothes, makeup, etc.

The facial tracking used by Samsung isn't exactly on par with Apple's, which is why some users think the AR Emoji end up looking awkward and borderline terrifying. And they're kind of not wrong.

Of course, there are also people who think the new feature is great and not at all creepy.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 will be available for pre-orders beginning March 1st and will hit stores March 16th.
