DIY iPhone Armband

By Shannon M. Beck

One of the wonderful things about owning an iPhone is that when you are on the go, you only need this one device to have a multitude of technologies at your fingertips. Unfortunately there are times when your fingertips are tied up and you need another way to transport these little pieces of modern technology. An armband is the perfect solution to this problem.

Things You'll Need

  • Tube sock, or other sock with an ankle at least 7.5 inches long
  • Tape measure
  • Marker or ink pen
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread or sewing machine

Step 1

Measure 7.5 inches from the top of the ankle of the sock and make a mark to indicate that point.

Step 2

Cut straight across at the mark. You will now have a 7.5-inch long tube (formerly the ankle of your sock) and the foot of the sock. Discard the foot portion of the sock.

Step 3

Fold the bottom 3 inches of the tube to the inside. This will form a cuff on the inside of the tube.

Step 4

Make a pocket for the iPhone. The pocket is made by two lines of stitching that hold the cuff in place. Make the first line of stitching from the bottom of the cuff to the top of the inner 3 inches of the cuff. Make a second, identical line of stitching 3 inches away from the first line of stitching. You will now have a 3-inch wide pocket within the inner cuff of the tube that the iPhone will sit snug inside. The natural elasticity of the sock material will hold the tube on your arm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Personalize your armband by adding embellishments like buttons, grommets or ribbons. If the armband is for a child, use a child-sized sock.
