How Do I Restore My Computer to Factory Settings Without A CD?
You may want to restore your computer to factory default settings to get rid of a virus or a malware problem. This is especially useful when all your computer settings and registries are messed up. You can use a system tool called "System Restore" to restore your computer to the date when you first bought your computer and installed the operating system. You do not need a CD for this task. This tool is pre-installed on your computer. Please note that System Restore does not affect personal files. It only affects system files, computer registries and settings.
Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and "System Tools" to launch "System Restore."
Click on "Restore my computer to an earlier time." Click on "Next." You will see a list of restore points that have been created ever since you bought and started using the computer. If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7, skip this step. Just click on "Next" when the welcome screen appears.
Click to choose the very first restore point. In other words, choose the restore point that is registered with the earliest date in the list. It should be the same date when you purchased your computer and installed Windows. Click on "Next."
Click on "Next" to confirm the restore. Windows will reboot automatically and bring your computer to its factory default settings.
