How Do I Show My Netflix From the Computer Through the TV?

By Nick Miles

Netflix has revolutionized the way people rent movies by providing a service that mails you DVDs to save you the hassle of waiting in line at the video store. They have also introduced streaming movies that can be played whenever and wherever straight through your computer. The only inconvenience is that these streaming movies are played on your small computer screen instead of your big screen TV. This can be remedied by connecting you computer to your TV.

Things You'll Need

  • VGA cable or
  • DVI cable or
  • DVI to VGA cable

Step 1

Look at your TV and your computer and find out which inputs and outputs they both have. They should use either the VGA standard or the DVI standard. Both of these are compatible with each other, so if your computer has one and your TV has the other, you can get a cable that connects them both. If your TV is older and only has composite or S-video inputs, you will need a VGA to composite or S-video cable.

Step 2

Plug in your computer to your TV using either the VGA cable, DVI cable, or the DVI to VGA cable.

Step 3

Turn on your TV and set it to the correct video channel or input. If your computer does not display right away, you may need to restart it for the connection to properly set up.

Step 4

Log into your Netflix account on your computer and play the movie you want to watch. The movie will be displayed on your TV and you will be able to enjoy it on the big screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not want to use your computer, you can get a Netflix enabled device that allows you to play Netflix directly on your TV. These devices include the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Roku Digital Video Player, and certain Blu-ray players. Netflix support is also scheduled to reach the Nintendo Wii.
