How to Block Caller ID on a Landline

By Maya Walker

Caller identification, or caller ID, is a feature that allows a caller's phone number to be transmitted to the telephone equipment of the person being called. In most cases, if the caller's name is available, it is also transmitted. Callers who want to block their name and phone number when calling a landline phone can do so without incurring any charges on their phone bill. When you block your name and number, the call recipient may see "Unavailable" on their caller ID display.

Step 1

Pick up your telephone and listen for the dial tone.

Step 2

Dial *67 and listen for two quick beeps. The dial tone should return to normal following the two beeps.

Step 3

Dial the number you wish to call.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most landline phone companies offer the option to block your name and number from being displayed permanently. There may be a charge for this feature.
  • You can also block your number from being displayed on a cell phone by dialing *67 before the number.
