How to Block Popups in Explorer

By Eric Som

If you notice that sites pop up in separate windows without you clicking on them while browsing the Web, chances are you do not have the popup blocker enabled in Internet Explorer (IE). You must enable this feature, which allows IE to block intrusive websites. Since popups may contain malware that could harm your computer, enabling IE’s popup blocker is helpful in protecting your computer. In addition, some popups are designed exclusively for online advertising. Therefore, enabling the popup blocker in IE provides you with a hassle-free Web browsing experience.

Step 1

Open IE and then select “Tools.” A drop-down menu will open.

Step 2

Select “Turn on Popup blocker” from the “Pop-up Blocker” submenu.

Step 3

Prevent specific websites from being blocked by Internet Explorer, if you like. To do so, click on “Tools,” select “Pop-up Blocker Settings,” type the URL of the site in the box located under the “Address of website to allow” section, click “Add,” and then click “Close.”
