How to burn MP4 (MPEG-4) to a DVD and play MP4 videos on a DVD player
While an MP4 (MPEG-4) is a very common video file, you cannot play it in a standard DVD player without converting the file to DVD format. To convert an MP4 and burn it directly to DVD, use third-party video authoring and burning software. Freeware programs, such as Windows Movie Maker, Free Movie DVD Maker and WinX DVD Author, will aid you.
Using Windows Live Movie Maker
Download and install Windows Live Movie Maker.
Open Windows Live Movie Maker.
Click the "Add Videos and Photos" button, navigate through your folders and select the MP4 video you want to convert and burn to DVD. The video will be imported to the program and will appear in the storyboard pane on the right side of the screen.
Click the "Movie Maker" tab, highlight the "Save Movie" option and select "Burn a DVD." The "Save Movie" dialogue box will appear on the screen. Enter a name for your DVD project and click the "Save" button.
Insert a blank DVD in your computer's disc drive, and then click the "Next" button in the "Windows DVD Maker" window.
Scroll through the "Menu Styles" list and select a theme for your DVD's main menu. After selecting a theme, click the "Burn" button.
Using Free Movie DVD Maker
Download and install Free Movie DVD Maker.
Launch Free Movie DVD Maker.
Click the "Add Files" button, select your preferred MP4 file and click the "Open" button.
Click the "DVD Menu" tab on the left side of the screen and select a template for your DVD's main menu screen.
Insert a blank DVD in your computer's disc drive, and then click the "Burn" button on the toolbar. The program will convert your MP4 file to DVD format and burn it to your disc.
Using WinX DVD Author
Download and install WinX DVD Author.
Open WinX DVD Author, and then click the "Video DVD Author" button on the main menu.
Click the "+" icon at the bottom in the bottom-right corner and select the MP4 file you want to convert and burn to DVD. After importing the MP4, click the "Next Step" button.
