How to Change a PDF to Fillable
Adobe Acrobat is the industry standard software used to create, edit and manage fillable forms. With fillable forms, users can enter information that can then be submitted electronically. The Design Assistant feature of Acrobat allows you to change an existing PDF file to a fillable form. Once your fillable form has been created, you can distribute the document to users to complete, print and submit.
Click “Start” at the bottom left of your screen. Click All Programs and then select Adobe Acrobat.
Click File and select Open from the top menu in the Adobe Acrobat program window. Select the PDF file you want to change to fillable and click “Open.”
Click Advanced, select Forms and then select Make Form Fillable in Designer. The New Form Assistant wizard launches.
Click the option Import a PDF Document under Getting Started.
Click the desired PDF form and click “Next.”
Click Maintain Eligibility under Import Options if you wish to be able to edit the form in the future.
Select the method in which users will submit the form under Return Method. Methods of return include Fill Then Submit, Fill Then Submit/Print, Fill Then Print and Print. Depending on the method you choose, a "Submit" and/or "Print" button appears on the form.
Click “Finish” to close the Design Assistant wizard.
Add fields to your form. Click and drag the field type from the Library palette.
Customize the form field using the Object, Border, Accessibility and Layout palettes.
Click File and then select Save to save your fillable PDF form.
