How to Check for a Java Update

Java is a program that allows you to perform a variety of Web functions such as playing games, chatting with family and friends and viewing 3-D images. It is ideal to ensure you are running the latest version. Java includes an updating feature that allows you get new releases and bug fixes. Use this feature that comes installed with the Java application to check for new updates.

Step 1

Click the "Start" button, and then click "Control Panel." Double-click "Java" to launch the Java Control Panel.

Step 2

Click the "Update" tab, and then click the "Check for Updates Automatically" check box if you want Java to search for updates automatically. Select how you want Java to notify you about available updates.

Step 3

Click the "Advanced" button if you want to configure when Java installs updates. Select the day, time or week you want to install updates.

Step 4

Click the "Update Now" button to install updates manually. Java searches the program's server for available updates. If updates are available, they are installed automatically.
