Step

Make sure you have OSX Tiger installed on your computer. Older versions of Mac OS are not compatible with the Google Talk service.

Step

Open iChat on your desktop. Locate the icon in the "Applications" folder on your Mac.

Select the "Preferences" option from the iChat menu.

Choose the "Accounts" option and select the "+" button. This enables you to add a new account.

Open the "Account Type" menu. Choose the "Jabber Account" option from the list. If you are using a Gmail or Google Mail user name, enter your entire email address into the dialog box using the following format: username@gmail.com. If your Google Talk name isn't associated with any type of Google account, add "@gmail.com" after your user name. If you sign in using Google Apps, enter your full email address.

Enter your password into the dialog box. In the "Server" box enter "talk.google.com." Click "Add."

Highlight the account you just added In the "Accounts" section. Choose the "Server Settings" option.

Confirm that the follow is entered appropriately: Server: talk.google.com Port: 5223 Be sure that all of the boxes are checked. Enter "iChat" in the Location Field.

To activate the account on the iChat list, choose the "Log into Jabber" option.
