How to Connect Wireless to an iPhone

By Matt McGew

Apple's iPhone smartphone features the ability to connect to both secured and unsecured wireless (Wi-Fi) networks. To connect to a secured network with your iPhone, you must know the network's password or security key. Once successfully connected to either a secured or unsecured network, your iPhone will remember the network and automatically connect to it in the future.

Step 1

Tap the "Settings" button located on your iPhone's home screen.

Step 2

Select the "Wi-Fi" option.

Step 3

Move the switch located to the right of "Wi-Fi" to the "ON" position.

Step 4

Select the secured or unsecured Wi-Fi network you would like to connect to. Secured networks display a lock icon to the right of the network's name. Also to the right of the network's name is a signal strength indicator for the network. Available networks are assigned one to three bars based on their signal strengths.

Step 5

Enter the case-sensitive password to connect to a secure network. Skip this step if you are trying to connect to an unsecured network.

Step 6

Wait while your iPhone connects to the Wi-Fi network. Once connected, notice the check-mark icon located to the left of the network's name, indicating you are now connected to the selected wireless network.
