How to Connect Your Blu-ray to the Internet

By John Grossman

You can connect your Blu-ray player to the Internet if you want to access additional features such as chats, games and quizzes, simply browse the Web or read your emails on your television screen. Internet connectivity is a feature of many modern Blu-ray players. Those devices allow you to watch movies or TV shows in high-definition by purchasing discs in the Blu-ray format. You can connect your Blu-ray player to the Internet in just a few steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Ethernet cable

Step 1

Turn off your Blu-ray player.

Step 2

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the RJ45 connector at the back of your Blu-ray player. An RJ45 connector is a rectangular connector that is slightly larger than a phone line jack but similarly shaped.

Step 3

Connect the other end of the cable to your Internet modem or router. Your Internet modem or router should have at least four RJ45 connectors that allow you to connect various devices. Choose any one of these connectors to plug in the cable.

Step 4

Turn on your Blu-ray player. The device will now contact the router or modem and should be able to connect to the Internet within about one minute.
