How to Convert MP4 to WMV

By Kefa Olang

MPEG-4 (MP4) is a popular video format that supports different compression codecs such as H.264 and DivX and is used to play back video on most portable media devices and video-sharing websites. Windows Media Video (WMV) is a Microsoft-developed video format that supports a lossless video compression to maintain high-quality visual playback while keeping file sizes small. WMV is mainly supported by Windows Media Players (WMP) and WMP-supported devices. Using an easy-to-use video-converter program, converting MP4 videos to WMV is a simple process.

Things You'll Need

  • AVC Video Converter or other converter software

Step 1

Download AVC Converter (see Resources), a free program that will be used in this example, or other video-converter software. Install it on your computer.

Step 2

Launch your program after it has installed. Click "Add Video" on the top panel. Browse to the MP4 file on your computer and click "Open" to load it to your program.
