To create an Internet presence on the World Wide Web, you need a website that is the vehicle for displaying the information and a domain name that provides an online location, such as "http://www.mydomain.com," where the website lives. Typically, you need to purchase these items; however, you can find many providers on the Internet that allow you to create a free website and secure a free domain name when you sign up for an account with them.

Things You'll Need

  • Email address
  • Free website provider, such as Webs.com
  • Free domain provider, such as CO.NR

Create a Free Website

Step 1

Decide on the features that want your website to have. For instance, do you require website templates that you can use and edit for your site, do you need advanced blogging capabilities to promote your pages or do you prefer a host that does not impose their advertising logos on your documents? If so, look at Webs.com, Weebly.com and Wix.com to browse the extensive designs available. Research WordPress.com, Blogger.com and LiveJournal.com to look into the capabilites of these blog site providers. Further, Weebly.com is a free provider that does not put any marketing materials on your pages. Lastly, be sure to look for the "Features" link on each provider page to get a complete listing of all the benefits available to you.

Step 2

Read every provider's specific "Help" page to make sure you understand the terms of the free website, such as not posting any adult material. Further, you can get answers to common questions, such as how to get help with your site, to understand the provider's specific processes.

Step 3

Use the chosen website provider's "Sign Up" button or similar to create your account and follow the prompts to enter the required data, such as password and email address, in the spaces provided.
