How to Create a Yahoo ID And Web Page

By Heather Mark

Don't have a Yahoo! ID? No problem. Setting up a Yahoo! ID takes just a few minutes. Since Yahoo! is an Internet pioneer, it's made it seamless to integrate email, travel, shopping and even the ability to create your own personal website. And it's all free.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access

Step 1

Go to Yahoo and click "Free Mail: Sign Up" (see Resources below). You'll be taken to a registration page where you can create your unique Yahoo! ID.

Step 2

Fill in the questionnaire on the registration page. When you've completed it, click "Create My Account" at the bottom of the page.

Step 3

Go back to Yahoo! and locate the yellow "More Yahoo! Services" button on the left-hand side. Another window will slide open.

Step 4

Locate "GeoCities" on the alphabetical list and click it. GeoCities is Yahoo!'s free personal website service.

Step 5

Click "Sign Up" in the "Get a Site For Free" box to create your free website. Answer the three questions and click "Submit." You will be assigned your individual URL, which is your Web address.

Step 6

Click "Build Your Website Now" to reach the GeoCities control panel. The control panel is where you can manage photos and text, track your traffic statistics and use Yahoo!'s design tools. You'll also find tutorials here that can help answer all of your Web design questions.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have any pictures to put on your new website, take a look at the free image library in GeoCities. Adding images will enhance the look of your site and help you establish your online identity.
