How to Delete the Search History in Safari

By Graham Brown

Apple's Safari web browser saves the history of your searches, which can give you a quick way to go back to a previous search if you need to find the same information again. You can delete the search history in Safari if you are concerned about privacy on a shared computer or do not want searches to be saved.

Step 1

Open Safari through a desktop shortcut icon or by selecting the Safari application in your Finder window.

Step 2

Select the "Safari" menu from the top toolbar of your web browser. If you are using an older version of Safari, you may need to select the "Edit" menu instead.

Step 3

Choose "Reset Safari" from the drop-down menu. Here you will find a number of options for deleting Internet content.

Step 4

Check the "Clear History" and "Empty the Cache" checkboxes to delete your search history.

Step 5

Press the "Reset" button to finish clearing your Safari search history.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make sure the process of deleting your search history worked, select the "History" menu at the top of Safari and see if any previously viewed pages appear.
