How to Disable Indexing in Outlook 2007

By Greg Lindberg

The indexing feature, also known as the Instant Search function, is included with the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 email application and works with the components of the Window Search feature on your computer. Instant Search stores files from your Outlook 2007 program, including messages and contacts, so they can easily be located on your hard drive. The indexing feature can also be disabled at any time if you no longer want it to catalog your files.

Step 1

Open the Microsoft Outlook 2007 application on your computer.

Step 2

Select the "Tools" menu and then move your cursor over the "Instant Search" option.

Step 3

Click the "Search Options" button and then the Search Options dialog box will appear on your screen.

Step 4

Click the boxes below the "Index messages in these data files" field so that they become deselected.

Step 5

Click on the "OK" button to save your changes and then the indexing feature will be disabled for Outlook 2007.
