How to Disable the Shield in Avast

By Thomas King

Avast! is an international software company that specializes in Internet security. Avast! Free Antivirus, Avast! Pro Antivirus and Avast! Internet Security all feature "shields." These shields perform different tasks including monitoring incoming email to prevent malicious malware from infecting your computer, your Web-browsing activities to prevent you from accessing dangerous websites, and programs on your computer to detect viruses. Some people may find these shields intrusive, and may want to disable one or all of them.

Step 1

Open Avast! Free Antivirus, Avast! Pro Antivirus or Avast! Internet Security.

Step 2

Click "Real-time Shields" in the left pane.

Step 3

Click the shield you want to disable in the left pane. You can choose from File System Shield, Mail Shield, Web Shield, P2P Shield, IM Shield, Network Shield and Behavior Shield.

Step 4

Click "Stop" in the upper-right corner, then select "Stop Permanently" from the drop down-menu.

Step 5

Click "Yes" when asked to confirm.
